Springer Nature is looking to hire an Associate Editor or Editor for the Chemistry Books acquisition team. This individual will be responsible for the strategic growth, development, and editorial management of a global portfolio within Chemistry. The role involves acquisition of book projects; market/competitive research; negotiating publishing agreements; evaluating book proposals and submitted manuscripts; travel to conferences and campus visits for acquisitions purposes; developing and maintaining a large network of authors/editors; liaising with other departments such as production, marketing, and sales.

Responsibilities

Manage and grow a publishing program in Physical Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Theoretical & Computational Chemistry, and Nanotechnology; deliver competitive and profitable products in line with strategy.

Solicit, read, and evaluate proposals and manuscripts to determine commercial viability.

Research market trends to identify new authors, titles, and products.

Manage the backlist for assigned areas, maintaining profitable relationships with authors, series editors, and editorial board members.

Support authors and editors in developing their book projects.

Negotiate publishing contract terms.

Act as point of contact for authors/editors throughout the publication process.

Apply editorial policies and processes consistently; meet goals set by editorial management.

Build and maintain a strong network of authors/editors through engagement activities.

Promote the brand via virtual interactions and travel to conferences and campus visits.

Maintain continuous cooperation with editorial service, marketing, production, and other relevant departments.

Support training and mentoring of new and junior team members.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

College degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline; advanced degree (MSc or PhD) ideal.

Editorial experience is a plus.

Fluency in English, both oral and written.

Excellent communication and influencing skills.

Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels and as part of a team.

Proactive problem‑solving approach, taking ownership to drive and complete tasks.

Strong organizational skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.

Target‑driven and motivated to meet core objectives and KPIs.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Editor - $66,300 - $75,000 / Editor - $80,000 - $90,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level, and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
