Vice President, National Business Development
Role Purpose
- Lead Austin’s national business development strategy across our business units
- Empower and elevate local market sales and pursuit teams, not replace them
- Strengthen Austin’s brand, positioning, and executive relationships nationally
- Drive consistent, disciplined, and high‑quality pursuit outcomes
- Develop local leadership capability, not expand markets indiscriminately
Key Responsibilities
National Sales Strategy & Market Leadership
- Execute a national business development strategy aligned with Austin’s growth priorities
- Translate national strategy into clear, actionable guidance for local business units
- Identify where Austin should compete, differentiate, and win
- Ensure focus on strategic opportunities, not reactive or opportunistic pursuits
Leadership, Influence & Coaching
- Lead, mentor, and coach selling teams, market leaders, and operational employee owners
- Elevate executive‑level selling skills, pursuit discipline, and go
o‑go decision making - Serve as a trusted advisor to market leaders on positioning, client strategy, and team alignment
- Create consistency in how Austin shows up in national and multi‑market pursuits
Client & Industry Relationships
- Build and maintain executive‑level relationships with national clients and partners
- Establish strong, trusted connections with national design firms
- Represent Austin externally as a strategic, credible, and values‑aligned partner
- Collaborate with peers at other national CM/GCs when appropriate
Pursuit Excellence & Operational Alignment
- Strengthen collaboration between business development, operations, and preconstruction
- Improve pursuit outcomes by aligning local market intelligence with national resources
- Ensure pursuits are well‑led, well‑resourced, and client‑focused
- Reinforce disciplined pursuit reviews, positioning, and messaging
Austin Brand & Market Representation
- Act as a strategist and ambassador for Austin
- Help local markets better organize their go‑to‑market approach using Austin’s full platform
- Ensure Austin’s culture, values, and delivery strengths are clearly communicated and demonstrated

- Deep understanding of pursuit planning, positioning, and execution
- Aligns diverse teams around a single, compelling client story
- Applies discipline without stifling local market creativity
Business Acumen & Results Orientation
- Proven track record of increasing sales and win rates
- Understands financial drivers, risk, and return in CM/GC pursuits
- Makes data‑informed decisions without losing market context
Experience & Background
- Senior‑level business development leadership experience in CM or GC environments
- Demonstrated success leading national or multi‑market sales strategies
- Experience across Healthcare, Aviation, Corporate Commercial, Higher Education, or Advanced Technology markets strongly preferred
- History of partnering closely with operations and preconstruction leaders
- Recognized internally as a leader and culture carrier, not just a seller
