Job Overview
The Senior Editor plays a key role in planning and producing the weekly print product while contributing to daily and weekly digital publishing. Responsibilities include executing special publications, editing copy, recruiting and coordinating freelancers, and serving as primary backup to the Managing Editor. The Senior Editor is prepared to edit daily web stories as needed and helps shape the Business Journal’s social media presence.

In a multi-platform newsroom, the Senior Editor reformats, repurposes, and guides content across print and digital channels to maximize its impact. Through strong storytelling, layout direction, and concept development, the Senior Editor ensures the newsroom’s best reporting reaches its full potential. Experience with video, mobile and web formats is a plus as multimedia coverage continues to expand.

The Senior Editor also collaborates with other departments on awards publications, events, and cross-departmental initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

Content Projects

Develop and execute special content projects in collaboration with editors

Source, assign, and coordinate freelancers

Gather, format, and adapt digital content for print

Editorial Lead for Events

Partner with the Events team as editorial lead for awards publications

Recommend content themes, story lineups, and visual assets

Support event-related social media publishing

Manage editorial workflows and ensure project timelines are met

Conduct outreach to honorees and judges

General Editing

Edit and proof copy for AP and Business Journal style, accuracy, clarity, and consistency

Write and report stories for special publications, print editions, and daily newsletters

Implement systems to ensure deadlines are met, including with shared services

Edit digital news content throughout the day as needed

Attend required Business Journal events

Complete additional assignments as directed

Work collaboratively with colleagues and professionally with sources

Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Minimum 2–3 years of editing experience in print or online media

Proficiency in AP Style

Strong working knowledge of social media platforms

Experience managing editorial projects

Excellent news judgment and attention to detail

Demonstrated ethical journalism practices

Creative planning and organizational skills

Adobe InDesign experience preferred

Video editing experience a plus
