Position Summary
The Literacy Support Specialist supports students in grades 1–8 through individualized and small‑group literacy instruction, employing an Orton‑Gillingham approach. The position is temporary, part‑time, and anticipated to begin on August 3, 2026 and end in mid‑ to late February 2027.

The Denver Waldorf School is an urban K‑12 school with 300 students, located in Denver, Colorado. Founded in 1974, it is fully accredited by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, the Waldorf Early Childhood Association, and the Association of Colorado Independent Schools.

Essential Functions

Provide one‑on‑one, small‑group, and classroom‑based literacy support for students in grades 1–8.

Implement structured literacy interventions using the Orton‑Gillingham approach.

Assess student literacy skills and monitor progress.

Collaborate with teachers, families, and outside providers to support student success.

Support implementation of literacy‑related accommodations and assistive technology.

Prepare student progress reports and maintain accurate records.

Participate in meetings related to student support and educational planning.

Assist with management of the grade school library.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university, or a relevant combination of experience.

Proficiency and certification in Orton‑Gillingham.

Maintain current CPR/1st Aid and Medication Administration certifications.

Experience working with faculty and administrative teams.

Proficiency in project management and planning.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google applications.

Physical Demands
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, write, listen, speak clearly, type, read, and respond to emails in a timely fashion. The employee may need to lift or move up to 20 pounds.

Working Hours
The Literacy Support Specialist works part‑time, up to 25 hours a week during school hours. The daily and weekly schedule will be created with the Director of Student Support to accommodate where support is needed, required meetings, and the general requirements for running the Reading Program and related duties. Modifications to the schedule need to be approved by the Director of Student Support.
