Job Summary
The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Group Supervisor 2 position located at the Summit View Youth Center (SVYC) in Las Vegas, NV. The SVYC is a 48‑bed staff‑secure facility for male youth ages 14 to 20. The Group Supervisor guides youthful offenders toward pro‑social behaviors, provides coaching and counseling, and ensures the care, welfare, custody, and rehabilitation of juvenile offenders.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, human services, social services, education, criminal justice or a closely related field plus one year of experience working with the public or clients which included coordinating or supervising work, people, or activities in a custodial, employment, therapeutic, educational, recreational program, or correctional setting.
High school diploma or equivalent education plus three years of experience working with the public or clients, including at least one year with coordinating or supervising work in a custodial or correctional setting.
One year of experience as a Group Supervisor I in Nevada State service.
An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Job Duties
Supervise the activities of youths within the assigned unit; observe work habits, social behavior, and attitude to ensure compliance with institutional rules.
Provide assistance and direction to youths in assignments, acceptable behavior, personal hygiene, and dress.
Participate as a member of a treatment team to implement treatment plans and document progress or problems.
Conduct intake interviews, review case history, and complete required intake forms.
Perform security checks, head counts, room and body searches, and document findings.
Respond to emergencies such as runaway searches and provide first aid.
Implement verbal, behavioral, or physical interventions to control youth exhibiting aggressive or violent behavior.
Maintain individual case records, incident reports, accountability lists, and other required documentation.
Instruct youths in life skills, educational and vocational training, and assist with homework.
Coordinate events, officiate duties, and secure equipment as needed.
Perform related duties assigned by supervisors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of security techniques, institutional rules, recreational equipment, health and safety regulations, interviewing techniques, crisis intervention, basic principles of behavior modification, and state juvenile justice laws.
Ability to create a supportive learning environment, maintain professionalism under pressure, negotiate solutions, analyze situations, prioritize tasks, and write clear observational reports.
