Vacancy: HS Honors Assistant Orchestra Director
Location: Multiple Locations
Dates: 2026-2027 School Year
Pay: $671/stipend
Primary Function
To develop and implement an exemplary honors music program that provides the highest quality educational, artistic, and performance opportunities for every student musician.
Qualifications
Prior experience directing, coaching, teaching, or leading music ensembles preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performance Responsibilities
To ensure full compliance with all school and school board policies and regulations.
To work cooperatively with the entire staff.
To relate positively to parents and other community representatives.
To ensure the timely and accurate completion of all required records and reports.
To demonstrate proficiency in standard English, both spoken and written.
To accept and fulfill responsibilities beyond the ensemble setting as they pertain to school expectations.
To assume responsibility for the care of music materials, instruments, equipment, uniforms, and facilities.
To ensure a clean, orderly, and safe environment that supports the well‑being of all student musicians.
Instructional Performance
To foster and model positive interactions among student musicians while building supportive relationships with the school and community.
To demonstrate enthusiasm for music education, performance, and lifelong learning.
To promote self‑direction, self‑discipline, and personal responsibility in students, empowering them to achieve musical excellence and artistic growth.
To establish and maintain clearly defined standards of behavior, attendance, preparation, and performance.
Subject Matter
To exhibit comprehensive knowledge of music education, performance practices, music theory, repertoire, and ensemble techniques to ensure effective instruction and guidance for student musicians.
To effectively adapt instruction and rehearsal strategies to align with the individual needs, abilities, and interests of students.
To prepare students for honors performances, auditions, festivals, competitions, and other musical opportunities as appropriate.
Planning/Materials
To develop and sustain an organized honors music program guided by well‑structured, long‑term planning.
To demonstrate effective planning and organization while employing a diverse range of instructional strategies, repertoire, and resources to enhance student learning and performance.
To coordinate rehearsals, performances, auditions, and special events in support of program goals.
To clearly communicate musical expectations, performance standards, and rehearsal objectives to students and explain their significance for artistic and personal growth.
To utilize appropriate and varied instructional techniques, rehearsal methods, and learning activities.
To maintain an effective system for monitoring student progress and performance and to communicate that progress to appropriate individuals.
To inspire students to pursue musical excellence through meaningful learning experiences and high‑quality performance opportunities.
