The Director of Development and Communications is responsible for the development and execution of all fundraising, marketing, and communication activities for the organization. Accountable for the annual campaign, this position is responsible for meeting the organization’s unearned income projections through direct fundraising and the supervision of all development department activities including SAVE’s Evening of Empowerment Gala. Additionally, the Director of Development and Communications works to engage the Board of Directors in fundraising activities and serves as the staff lead to the Board for the Committee. In the marketing and communication function, the Director of Development and Communications develops the annual marketing and communication plan and is responsible for its implementation.

Responsibilities
- In partnership with the Executive Director, assess organizational fundraising needs and goals and define SAVE’s fundraising strategies and policies and implementation. Develop a robust and strategic long‑term development plan including the annual campaign.
- Meet the organization’s unearned income projections through direct fundraising and supervision of development department activities.
- Engage the Board of Directors in fundraising activities and other related special projects. Prepare timely, informative reports on fundraising and communications.
- Serve as the lead staffer for the Board Committee meetings.
- Advance and cultivate:
- Membership campaigns through direct mail efforts and personalized fundraising initiatives.
- Government grant projects.
- Current donor relationships and identify potential donors through cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Determine and help develop concepts for print and other media pieces needed for fundraising.
- Develop and track proposals and reports for all government, foundation and corporate fundraising.
- Oversee all special events for donor recognition and fundraising, both internally and externally.
- Educate and communicate fundraising goals to the entire organization.
- Ensure that donor tracking systems accommodate the business needs of the organization; assess new systems as appropriate and implement them effectively and timely.
- Develop an annual marketing and communications plan and oversee implementation of the plan to include media, marketing materials, social media and messaging while assuring quality control.
- Supervise, evaluate, recruit, and develop communications and development staff and independent contractors.
- Collaborate with the Director of Finance and Executive Director to develop the annual departmental budgets.
- Monitor departmental budget to ensure that annual projects are accurate.
- Manage special projects as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive development experience in the non‑profit sector.
- Comprehensive knowledge of development principles and practices including all aspects of fundraising, with a strong background in securing major gifts, corporate and foundation relations.
- Outstanding relationship management skills to include the ability to effectively develop relationships with funders, community partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience preparing federal and other grant proposals.
- Previous supervisory skills and ability to effectively manage staff.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Excellent written, oral communication and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organization skills; ability to prioritize and excellent problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a deadline‑driven environment.

The employee is occasionally required to stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift or move up to 10 pounds. The work environment includes settings such as the client’s home, educational institutions, community places, and office environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
