Role Overview ProAg is seeking a Business Development Manager located in South Dakota or Iowa. The position is remote and full‑time. This individual contributor role requires up to 70% travel and focuses on building strategic relationships with crop insurance producers across the eastern United States.
Responsibilities Develop and recruit prospective crop insurance agents in South Dakota and Iowa to place their business with ProAg.
Work with currently appointed agents to increase the amount of business placed with ProAg.
Collaborate with leadership to identify agents that fit the company culture, profitability goals, and geographic coverage.
Travel extensively to meet sales goals and support agents.
Drive profitable growth through sales and agent‑focused marketing initiatives as a trusted advisor.
Identify and pursue new business opportunities through cold calling, networking, trade shows, relationship building, and strategic partnerships.
Monitor competitors, industry trends, and client insights to shape ProAg’s competitive advantage.
Conduct targeted sales outreach to prospective agents, cultivating long‑term relationships aligned with business objectives.
Collaborate with agents to deliver tailored solutions that address their needs and drive premium growth.
Maintain strong relationships with current books of business through on‑site visits and timely resolution of client issues.
Develop and maintain a database of current and prospective producers.
Maintain a deep understanding of the crop insurance business and ProAg’s Standard Reinsurance Agreement.
Ensure compliance with organization policies and government regulations, including Sales Closing Date, Acreage Reporting Date, Production Reporting Date, fund designation, and accounting cutoff.
Track quote ratio, close ratio, renewal persistency, and loss ratio; adapt sales strategy as needed.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with sales, marketing, product, finance, and operations teams to align go‑to‑market efforts and client solutions.
Perform other relevant duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent education or experience.
6 years of relevant and progressive professional experience in sales (crop insurance experience preferred).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
Exceptional organizational and analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks independently.

Pay Range $99,600 - $122,000, including geographic adjustments.
