Program Manager – Spine Services
The Program Manager is responsible for growth, planning, programming, development, and services operations and patient experience related to the Spine Service Line, including transitions of care between inpatient and outpatient services. Reporting to the Director of Clinical Operations, the PM oversees program development across multiple areas: increasing referral base through community outreach, payer relations, team communication, marketing collaboration, and family‑centered multidisciplinary care. They work with the Medical Director and Clinical Operations to define and achieve operational goals for the USC Spine Center and satellite clinics aligned with institutional goals across the four pillars: Patient Care, Education, Research, and Community Outreach.
Responsibilities
Maintain liaison with Keck Medicine of USC Ambulatory Services, Keck School of Medicine, and Keck Medical Center through meetings and communication.
Coordinate and integrate program services at intradepartmental, interdepartmental, and hospital‑wide levels; establish strategies for service line growth, efficiency, and patient/family experience.
Develop and maintain ongoing process improvement and quality control projects supporting ambulatory and hospital operations.
Promote a positive customer service culture, enhance satisfaction, and foster the image of the USC Spine Center.
Collaborate with the Nurse Navigator to integrate patient experience across continuum of care and ensure efficient, cost‑effective services.
Oversee standardized care plans, patient education materials, and track outcomes to adjust with executive and physician leadership.
Ensure compliance with TJC, regulatory, DHS, and Title 22 standards; maintain policies and procedures.
Assist with budgeting to achieve financial performance, satisfaction targets, and quality outcomes; monitor performance against budgets.
Demonstrate openness to change, implement creative programs supporting strategic initiatives.
Coordinate activities with other departments, resolve resource‑use problems, maintain open communication among employee groups, medical personnel, and patients/families.
Ensure all operations are conducted ethically and responsibly.
Collaborate with Keck Marketing and spine physician leadership to develop marketing tactics, assess marketplace data, increase patient volume, referrals, and social media presence.
Develop relationships with insurance companies to ensure quality, cost‑effective care.
Lead business development activities: hospital collaborations, physician outreach, CME programs, community outreach, joint ventures, and strategic business plans.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree or professional degrees (MBA, MHA, MPH) preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in a healthcare operational environment, preferably Spine surgery, with progressive management experience.
Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent analytical, organizational, written and verbal communication skills, with presentation and negotiation experience.
Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations and confidential information.
Poise, tact, diplomacy, good judgment, and strong client‑service orientation.
Ability to collaborate across departmental lines, build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers.
Self‑starter, self‑directed, and driven to excel; able to multitask, prioritize and make decisions with stakeholder input.
Professional appearance, executive presence, and professional mannerisms.
Knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulations, payment models, physician practice management, revenue cycle, payer contracting, managed care, ACO structure.
Knowledge of service line coordination, data analysis, quality improvement, regulatory and legislative issues.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Business Administration, MHA, or MPH.
Licenses / Certifications
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City). Card must be obtained within 30 days of hire if not currently held.
Salary
Annual base salary range: $81,120.00 – $133,010.00.
