Position Summary
Under the direction of the Scenic Arts Manager, this is a seasonal position responsible for executing maintenance and event carpentry, painting, and minor support projects as assigned.

This seasonal position will run from July 1, 2026, and will end no later than January 31, 2027.

Your day to day
Essential Functions (including but not limited to):
Provide special event support in initial build out, during events, and as part of transition from one event to the next in the event series.
Acts as a support carpenter for the events team. Must have ability to build themed sets.
Performs small event set and production projects on Zoo property alone, with manager or as part of team of Maintenance Department trades.
Works with staff to complete assigned projects needed for event support and build out/strike.
Provides labor including dirt work, loading/relocating materials, working in exhibits, etc.
Executes maintenance and construction projects as assigned.
Prepares and maintains records and reports.
What are we looking for?
Qualifications and Experience:
Knowledge and experience in carpentry and painting. Other trade knowledge a plus.
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Skilled in use of tools pertinent to general shop duties.
Motivated self-starter with strong organizational abilities.
Must be able to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to complete projects in a reasonable time frame to the complete satisfaction of Zoo management.
Deal courteously and tactfully with employees, peers, superiors and the general public.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
Other Requirements
Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, safety standards, and standards that ensure personal safety and animal welfare and safety.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold).
Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
Must be willing and able to work varied and long shifts including holidays, weekends and in support of events as needed.
Must be able to plan for, work, and staff specials events and exhibits as well as be available for unexpected shifts.
Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, and walking.
