This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Technical Animator based in the United States.
This role sits at the intersection of animation artistry and real-time technical implementation, shaping how characters move, react, and feel in gameplay.
You will help define character motion from early concept through final in-engine execution, ensuring animations translate into responsive and engaging player experiences.
Working within a multidisciplinary game development team, you will collaborate closely with animators, designers, engineers, and technical artists.
The environment is highly creative and iterative, focused on building a new original game universe from the ground up.
You will contribute both to hands-on animation production and to the systems and workflows that power scalable animation pipelines.
This is an opportunity to influence both the artistic quality and technical performance of animation in a modern real-time game production setting.
Accountabilities:
Create and implement high-quality production animation directly into a real-time game engine
Collaborate with Animation, Design, and Engineering teams to build and integrate animation systems
Develop and maintain systems such as blending, layering, and state machines for character motion
Support animation teams by troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in production
Continuously improve animation workflows, pipelines, and overall production efficiency
Partner with engineers to ensure animations meet performance and memory constraints
Work with technical artists to design and improve animation tools and pipelines
Requirements:
Extensive experience with animation systems in Unreal Engine
Strong understanding of game animation fundamentals (blending, layering, state machines, etc.)
Solid knowledge of Maya animation pipelines in production environments
Strong foundation in animation principles and character motion quality
Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams
Bonus: Python scripting for Maya
Bonus: Experience in stylized animation
Bonus: Background in fighting games or live service game development
