Overview
The ASU I&C Reliability Trainer is responsible for developing, executing, and managing comprehensive training programs for Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) and electrical disciplines within Nippon Sanso Matheson's Bulk Operations organization. The role ensures that electrical technicians, I&C specialists, and plant performance technicians receive the technical development, progression, and competency validation required to support safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Air Separation Units (ASUs) and related systems. The trainer also serves as subject matter expert for electrical and controls condition monitoring programs, supporting the organization’s reliability strategy through technical guidance, program oversight, and continuous improvement.

Essential Functions
Training Program Development & Delivery
Design, develop, and maintain structured I&C and electrical training curricula aligned with NSM standards, OEM requirements, and industry best practices.

Deliver classroom, hands on, and field based training to technicians, specialists, and reliability personnel.

Create training materials, assessments, certification pathways, and competency evaluations.

Ensure training content remains current with evolving technologies, equipment upgrades, and regulatory requirements.

Progression Program Management
Manage and maintain progression schedules for electrical technicians and I&C specialists.

Track individual development plans, training milestones, and competency achievements.

Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to support employee growth.

Collaborate with supervisors and managers to ensure alignment between progression expectations and operational needs.

Reliability & Condition Monitoring Expertise
Serve as the technical authority for electrical and controls condition monitoring programs, including but not limited to:

Program Administration & Compliance
Maintain accurate training records, documentation, and certification files.

Ensure training programs comply with internal policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations.

Coordinate with operations, engineering, and reliability teams to schedule training and ensure resource availability.

Evaluate program effectiveness and implement continuous improvement measures.

Qualifications

Education:

Associate’s Degree in Instrumentation Tech, Electrical Tech, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or Electronics Engineering Tech is required.

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is preferred.

Work Experience:

7+ years of hands‑on experience in industrial instrumentation, controls, or electrical maintenance within heavy industrial environments such as ASU, petrochemical, refining, power generation.

7+ years of demonstrated experience with DCS/PLC Systems.

5+ years of experience developing or delivering technical training.

5+ years of experience performing or supporting condition monitoring programs (preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong understanding of ASU operations, industrial instrumentation, control systems, and electrical distribution equipment.

Proficiency with PLCs, DCS platforms, instrumentation calibration, loop tuning, and troubleshooting.

Knowledge of NFPA, NEC, ISA, and relevant electrical/instrumentation standards.

Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies and reliability methodologies (RCM, FMEA, CBM).

Ability to design and deliver effective technical training for diverse skill levels.

Strong analytical and diagnostic skills for electrical and controls systems.

Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation abilities.

Skilled in curriculum development, competency assessment, and progression planning.

Effective project management and organizational skills.

Motor diagnostics, vibration and thermography, control system health monitoring, instrumentation performance tracking.

Develop and maintain standards, procedures, and best practices for condition monitoring activities.

Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and reliability improvement initiatives.

Provide guidance on predictive and preventive maintenance strategies.

Mentor and develop technical personnel in a structured progression environment.

Translate complex technical concepts into accessible training content.

Lead reliability initiatives and influence cross functional teams.

Work independently while collaborating across operations, engineering, and reliability groups.

Travel to NSM sites as needed for training and support.

Certifications (preferred):

ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST I, II, or III).

Specific PLC/DCS training certificates.

70E Electrical Safety Training (current).

Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT).

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

Stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, bend and twist, talk and hear, use fingers and hands to feel objects, equipment, tools or controls.

Occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

Vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, depth perception, adjust focus.

Work in office and industrial field environments.

Exposure to moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, outside weather conditions, high and precarious places, high noise levels.

May also work from a home location and must conduct virtual/video meetings.

Must sign NDA, have a clean driving record and pass background check and drug test.

Travel Requirements
Estimated 25% travel, including weekend and evening support as needed.

Pay Range
$120,000 to $140,000 a year.
