Job Overview
WSAW/WZAW, the Gray Media‑owned CBS and FOX affiliate in north central Wisconsin, has an immediate opening for a weekday News Producer who will work on award‑winning newscasts. Producers create, coordinate, and showcase content that appears on‑air and online and will also be cross‑trained to produce content for all of WSAW's digital platforms, including the website, streaming desk, and digital apps. The role requires an innovator who can see the big picture while also being a stickler for the details, writing conversationally for TV and using AP Style for digital.
Responsibilities
Report to and work closely with the News Director and Executive Producer to shape and ensure the execution of WSAW's digital‑first strategy across all platforms.
Act with urgency and immediacy, researching, writing, and sharing copy daily as new information emerges.
Identify opportunities for live streaming on the website, integrating user‑generated content into TV newscasts and the streaming desk, and sending push alerts to extend reach.
Ensure story selection and placement in rundowns meet journalistic/editorial standards and WSAW/WZAW's brand pillars.
Understand the DMA, key target audiences, and where they live.
Produce engaging and error‑free work, paying close attention to details.
Communicate and collaborate professionally and respectfully with coworkers to enhance the viewer experience.
Cross‑train in producing content for digital platforms, including the website and streaming desk.
Qualifications
College degree in journalism or a related field preferred.
Positive attitude, a desire to win, and ability to reflect on work and apply feedback.
Strong research skills and critical thinking, able to dig beyond press releases and verify tips via email or social media.
Strong time‑management skills; able to work quickly while maintaining accuracy, multitasking, and composure under deadline pressure.
Established, responsible presence on digital platforms, especially social media.
Working knowledge of CMS and digital platforms such as ARC, Social News Desk, and Google QuickPlay. Photoshop experience is a plus.
Adherence to AP Style.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Flexibility to work different hours and shifts, covering coworkers or breaking news.
Clean driving record and ability to carry 35+ pounds of gear.
