Overview The Atlantic is seeking a creative, fast-moving producer to help execute our video strategy, reimagining how award‑winning journalism will look beyond the pages of the magazine. This role involves end‑to‑end production—including pitching ideas, scripting videos, filming, and editing footage—while managing multiple projects, delivering on deadlines, and collaborating with writers, editors, and reporters.
Responsibilities End‑to‑end production of short- and mid‑form videos, with a social‑first focus.
Pitch stories, write scripts, film, and edit content at a competitive pace.
Work closely with writers and editors to translate journalism into video formats.
Contribute to the enhancement of the Atlantic’s video strategy, including visual design, workflows, distribution, and innovation.
Train newsroom staff on video best practices, equipment usage, on‑camera presence, and editing workflows.
Write copy for videos on social platforms with an emphasis on clarity, engagement, editorial excellence, and SEO.
Qualifications 5+ years of experience filming and editing digital/social video, preferably for a media organization.
Proficiency with cameras, lighting equipment, gimbals, microphones, and Adobe PremierePro, AfterEffects, or equivalent.
Strong conceptualization, planning, scripting, and execution of high‑level video pitches and projects.
Ability to juggle quick‑turn video needs and longer‑range feature projects.
Experience generating and leading social conversations across a wide range of topics.
Highly collaborative and energized by a fast‑paced news environment.
Competitive spirit and desire to grow audiences through social video.
Ability to tailor videos for diverse social media platforms and audiences.
Demonstrable record of innovation in video concept, format, and execution.
Strong writing skills, and excellent news and editorial judgment.
Media and social‑media fluency, keen eye for design, and ability to analyze performance metrics.
Familiarity with branded design portfolios.
Salary and Location Salary Minimum: $85,000; Salary Maximum: $100k. This position is based in Washington, DC or NewYorkCity. This is a Guild position.
