Video Editor

The Publish Press LLC · Multiple locations ·

Job type:
Full Time

We make videos that explain money, economics, and modern life. Our focus is explaining big, complex ideas with visuals built around real-world props, scenarios and data.

What You’ll Work On
You’ll own the edit from rough assembly to locked picture on long‑rom YouTube videos (typically 15‑30 mins), working closely with Grant and our producers/writers to make sure we’re telling a story worth sharing.

Assembling and refining long‑form edits that follow a clear narrative arc

Integrating graphics and animated data into the video

Flagging pacing or structural problems early

Owning your timeline and hitting deadlines without being managed into them

Responsibilities

Own the edit from rough assembly to locked picture on long‑form YouTube videos, including pre‑production planning and post‑production workflow

Ingest, organize, and manage raw footage, prop sequences, and sourced clips across multiple active projects

Build structured timelines — organizing A‑roll, B‑roll, graphics, and prop‑based visual sequences

Assemble rough cuts and full edits from provided scripts and outlines, then refine based on creative direction

Sync audio, multicam footage, and external sound files

Collaborate closely with the producer to implement notes and revisions without losing momentum

Maintain clean project organization and file management across the full production pipeline

Contribute to improving post‑production workflows and help us hold a consistent release cadence without compromising the work

Qualifications

2+ years editing long‑form YouTube or documentary content

Strong proficiency in Premiere Pro

Solid instinct for pacing, narrative structure, and how an argument holds attention across 15‑30 minutes

Comfortable on macOS, managing large media files and complex layered timelines

Experience working with motion graphics files and animated data sequences

Strong organizational skills and calm under fast, iterative workflows

Able to take direction, implement feedback quickly, and flag problems early

Genuine interest in the topics we cover: economics, business, consumer systems, and how modern institutions work

Graphics, animation, and After Effects experience preferred, but not required

Camera or field production experience is a plus

What separates good from great:
Our videos work because they show people things they think they already understand. The edit has to honor that and value their time. You need to know when a cut is serving the argument and when it’s just filling time.

We move fast, but we don’t cut corners on quality.

What success looks like after the first 90 days:

You’ve independently owned multiple long‑form edits from rough cut to lock

You’ve flagged at least one structural issue in a script or assembly that made the final video better

Compensation
Will start on a per‑project basis with the goal of becoming a full‑time position. Dependent on in‑person vs. remote availability.
