Job Summary
This position reports to the Communications Director at the UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine and is responsible for developing the school's print and digital publications, leading media and public relations efforts, and supporting the management of the school's websites. The role involves collaboration with the advancement team and requires building positive relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, clients, and public partners in communications, media, and public relations.
Key Job Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operational unit plans to align with strategic initiatives and meet established objectives (5%)
Plan, write, and edit content for various internal and external stakeholders (40%)
Plan and direct unit programs and/or projects to ensure adherence to deadlines and budgets (5%)
Identify, propose, and implement new or revised unit operational policies and procedures (5%)
Develop and execute public and media relations strategy and initiatives across multiple communication mediums (15%)
Develop, implement, and deliver communication materials through various mediums to designated audiences (25%)
Support the communications team and director with photography/videography and digital media needs (5%)
Required Qualifications
At least 3 years of professional full-time experience in developing and executing print and digital publications, website, media, and public relations strategies and materials; 7 years preferred.
Proficiency in word processing (MS Word) and experience with traditional and digital media.
Design and production of electronic newsletters.
Demonstrated ability to learn new technology tools and platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with veterinary medical, clinical, foundational science fields, or higher education.
Experience with print collateral and print publications.
Photography, photo editing, and some basic graphic design experience.
Education
Bachelor's degree required.
Preferred focus in Communications, Journalism, English, and/or Marketing.
