Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Executive Operations, the Public Relations Coordinator’s role is to support the institution’s strategic communications efforts by developing and executing media relations and public relations initiatives that enhance the College’s visibility, reputation, and brand. This role collaborates across departments to proactively identify stories, guide external messaging, and support institutional priorities while ensuring alignment with the College’s strategic goals.

Job Duties
MEDIA RELATIONS
Builds and maintains relationships with local, regional and trade media to advance the College’s visibility and reputation. Develops and distributes press releases, media advisories, and feature stories. Plans and executes press conferences and media events. Proactively pitches stories that highlight programs, student success, faculty expertise, and community impact. Responds to media inquiries in a timely and strategic manner. Monitors media coverage, analyzes results, and prepares reports to inform public relations strategy. Serves as the back‑up agency spokesperson, providing accurate, timely and transparent media responses and interviews while protecting the agency's brand, image and reputation. Guides the modification and deployment of the agency’s crisis communication plan and inclement weather plan, ensuring ongoing effectiveness and alignment with best practices. Serves as the agency's back‑up responder to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
Directs the planning and execution of internal communications and publications to ensure accuracy, consistency, clarity and effectiveness. Leads the development of public relations publications including a weekly electronic newsletter, bi‑monthly newsletter, annual report, award nominations, resolutions, and special publications. Provides strategic communications support for key institutional announcements and initiatives and advises campus partners on messaging and communication approaches.

EVENT PLANNING
Plans and implements institutional events that support the College’s strategic priorities, brand, and community engagement efforts. Collaborates with internal departments and external partners to guide logistics, messaging, and promotion for events. Develops event‑related communications materials such as invitations, programs, scripts, and talking points. Oversees event timelines, vendor coordination, and on‑site execution to ensure a high‑quality, on‑brand experience. Identifies opportunities to leverage events for media visibility and storytelling.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5‑7 years of work experience in public relations, communications and/or marketing. Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) recommended.

Knowledge of basic journalistic principles and practices for information dissemination, including familiarity with Associated Press style guidelines. Ability to serve as agency spokesperson and participate in on‑camera interviews. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with local, state and national media. Knowledge of social media platforms and how to use those platforms to disseminate information and communicate with the public. Familiarity with WordPress and ADA/WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. Knowledge of principles and methods of researching, planning, implementing and evaluating public relations programs. Ability to write, edit and produce publications for various formats and mediums. Ability to effectively communicate orally and through the written word. Ability to understand and maintain agency brands and the accurate deployment of those brands in various marketing collateral outputs.
