Station Music Assistant
The Station Music Assistant serves as part of the 22 West Radio student management team. They plan and direct activities of the music department while assisting the Student General Manager and the Station Program Assistant in the overall operation and management of the station.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
1. Selects vocal, instrumental, and recorded music suitable to station format or type of program.
2. Preferred experience as a DJ with ability to perform at station-sponsored events, outreach activities, and contracted gigs.
3. Screens music for HD3 broadcasts in accordance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations for obscenity, profanity and indecency and maintains music for internet streaming per "safe harbor" agreement with campus.
4. Guides a team of volunteers to coordinate the 22 West Radio music department.
5. Plans, coordinates and instructs in the 22 West Media DJ Internship.
6. Assigns music and personnel for all station events, contracted performances following 22 West and ASI policies and procedures.
7. Maintains and continually updates the online music library through procurement of musical materials from music labels, promotion companies and other sources.
8. Maintains effective security measures to backup and prevent loss of musical materials and station DJ equipment.
9. Establishes and maintains productive and professional relationships with music labels.
10. Works with the Student General Manager and Graduate Assistants to fulfill DJ service work orders.
11. Attends biweekly staff meetings and submits a written weekly report following guidelines from the Student General Manager.
12. Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
One-year experience as a disc jockey or with 22 West Radio or other music venue required. One year of college; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be a current and active CSULB student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
Knowledge and Abilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess a basic working knowledge of DJ equipment, a radio station and music trends, as well as the curation of a music playlist, should have knowledge of Internet software and the Microsoft Office and Google suite of applications, as well as experience with DJ controllers and associated software. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of students, customers or employees of organization.
Individuals must acquire proficiency in Station Playlist Pro software through participation in mandatory training. Must also complete training on FCC broadcast regulations regarding content.

Schedule
This position is a temporary, one academic-year appointment aligned with the CSULB academic calendar. The work schedule generally follows standard business hours, with flexibility required during peak periods. Occasional evening and weekend support is required.
