Postdoctoral Fellow, Biomedical Data Science & AI (LLM Agentic Systems)

The laboratories of Dr. Peifeng Ruan (https://qbrc.swmed.edu/labs/ruanlab/) and Dr. Wenqi Shi (https://qbrc.swmed.edu/labs/shilab/) at the Quantitative Biomedical Research Center (QBRC), Peter O'Donnell Jr. School of Public Health, UT Southwestern Medical Center, are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow in Biomedical Data Science and AI.Our team develops LLM-based agentic systems to address real-world challenges in biomedical research and clinical practice — including AI methods that support faster, more standardized, and more trustworthy review of clinical study designs. You will help develop and validate these systems, working alongside a multidisciplinary team spanning biostatistics, AI/LLM, clinical trial design, and software engineering, with opportunities to collaborate with clinical investigators and industry partners.What you'll doDevelop and implement LLM-based agentic systems, including grounded retrieval (RAG), structured generation, and governance/guardrail layers that keep outputs traceable and trustworthyBuild and evaluate AI methods against real-world biomedical and clinical dataCurate and analyze large-scale biomedical and clinical datasetsBenchmark system performance, interpret results, and co-author manuscripts and software releasesQualificationsPh.D. (completed or near completion) in computer science, bioinformatics, data science, machine learning, or a related quantitative fieldStrong programming skills and a track record of rigorous, independent researchStrong problem-solving ability and motivation to work at the intersection of AI and biomedicineDesirable experience (one or more)Large language models and agentic / multi-agent frameworksRetrieval-augmented generation, structured output, or LLM evaluationClinical trial design, biostatistics, or real-world clinical dataKnowledge graphs; software engineering for deployable applicationsHow to apply Send a CV and a list of three references to: Peifeng Ruan — Peifeng.Ruan@UTSouthwestern.edu Wenqi Shi — Wenqi.Shi@UTSouthwestern.edu
