Director, Enterprise Communications

We are currently looking for a Director, Enterprise Communications to join our growing team! In this role, you will lead the development and execution of an integrated communications strategy that supports Brightspeed's business priorities, strengthens culture, enables organizational change, and protects and enhances the company's reputation. You will oversee internal and external communications, public relations, executive communications, crisis communications, community engagement, and local market storytelling. You will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and lead a team and external partners to ensure communications are aligned, effective, and business-driven.
As Director, Enterprise Communications, your duties and responsibilities will include:
Develop and execute an integrated enterprise communications strategy aligned with business, culture, growth, and reputation objectives
Serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior leadership, providing counsel on messaging, organizational change, reputation management, and stakeholder communications
Establish communications standards, governance, planning processes, and measurement practices to drive consistency and effectiveness across the organization
Ensure alignment of messaging across internal, external, executive, and community-facing channels
Lead internal communications strategy, annual planning, and editorial calendar management for companywide employee communications
Oversee employee communications, leadership visibility programs, town halls, organizational announcements, and business updates
Partner with HR, Legal, IT, and business leaders to support employee programs, policy updates, transformation initiatives, and organizational change communications
Develop leader toolkits, FAQs, presentations, talking points, and manager cascade materials to support communication effectiveness
Measure internal communication effectiveness through employee feedback, engagement data, and channel analytics
Lead external communications and media relations strategies that strengthen Brightspeed's reputation and brand visibility
Manage public relations agency relationships, including scope, priorities, budgets, deliverables, and performance
Oversee development of press releases, media statements, executive messaging, awards submissions, thought leadership content, and media briefings
Serve as a communications lead for reputation-sensitive issues, media inquiries, and public-facing matters
Prepare executives and subject matter experts for interviews, speaking engagements, and public appearances
Support local market communications related to fiber expansion, community investments, sponsorships, and market activations
Partner with Marketing, Operations, Government Affairs, and local stakeholders to identify and support communications opportunities that build awareness, trust, and goodwill
Lead storytelling and communications around community partnerships, local events, and market milestones
Develop and maintain crisis communications plans, escalation protocols, message templates, and spokesperson guidance
Lead communications responses during business disruptions, reputation issues, and other sensitive situations
Provide counsel to leadership on emerging risks and stakeholder communications
Direct, coach, and develop the communications team, including internal and external communications leaders
Manage team priorities, workload planning, performance, and professional development
Oversee agency, vendor, and freelance resources as needed
Maintain disciplined intake, prioritization, and reporting processes for communications work
What It Takes To Catch Our Eye:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Marketing, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience required
15+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, internal communications, public relations, or related disciplines
Experience leading both internal and external communications programs required
Demonstrated success advising senior executives and leading communications through organizational change required
Experience managing agencies, budgets, and cross-functional stakeholder relationships required
Strong data Analysis and data management skills
Exceptional writing, editing, storytelling, media relations, and executive communications skills
Strong expertise in internal communications, external communications, public relations, executive messaging, and crisis communications
Experience creating, editing, and publishing content on internal and external digital platforms
Strong strategic thinking and ability to align communications with business priorities and organizational goals
Proficient using generative AI and related tools to draft, edit, tailor, and accelerate communications across audiences and channels, while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, brand alignment, and appropriate human review
Strong judgment and ability to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization
Ability to remain calm under pressure and lead effectively during sensitive or time-critical situations
Business-minded approach with the ability to connect employee engagement, reputation management, and community presence to business outcomes
Strong analytical skills and ability to use communications metrics and data to measure effectiveness and inform strategy

Experience in telecommunications, technology, infrastructure, utility, or consumer services industries
Experience supporting geographically dispersed workforces
Background in crisis communications, community relations, government affairs, or reputation management
Strong knowledge of communications measurement tools and analytics
