We’re currently seeking an experienced and driven Deputy Editor to help lead a fast‑paced editorial team covering all things film and television. This is a rare opportunity to shape the voice and vision of a major entertainment brand, mentor a passionate team of contributors, and steer strategic growth through data‑informed content planning.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of growing a team, expanding coverage, and driving traffic through smart, audience‑first editorial strategy.

Responsibilities

Liaise with parent company Valnet’s operations team regarding progress and challenges

Maintain editorial vision while striving to achieve business goals

Work with site leads to implement a plan for sustained growth

Continuously audit the site to identify areas to capitalize on or that need improvement

Propose and implement effective solutions for achieving ambitious site output, traffic and revenue targets

Leverage reporting tools to research and identify topics that will drive traffic (content planning)

Master data‑driven decision making

Assign stories to writers/editors and track progress

Manage editorial publishing calendar and plan coverage for off‑peak hours

Fill gaps by writing and editing as needed

Liaise with HR and participate in talent acquisition efforts

Source and identify potential editor candidates

Oversee and manage writers and editors on the site

Ensure the team maintains output targets and quality expectations, holding team accountable for missed opportunities

Build an effective team of quality editors with technical skills and industry knowledge

Provide feedback to ensure editors adhere to MW’s publication standards and contribute/edit appropriately

Create a positive, engaging space for entertainment enthusiasts who want to contribute and grow with the team

Manage MovieWeb’s PR & branding efforts

Build and maintain relationships with key industry partners

Establish trusted hosts/field reporters for delegating

Establish content plans around events and track content bundles for each

Share wins and coverage to partners

Ensure event coverage is shared on MW’s Events page, social channels, and LinkedIn

Requirements

Relevant experience in senior editing roles (managing editor, deputy editor, editor‑in‑chief) of a digital publication specializing in film, television and/or related content

Passion and background in all things movies and TV

Familiarity with best practices for SEO writing and knowledge of producing content for various web traffic sources

Experience with writer management

Proven track record of growing a team, expanding coverage, and driving traffic

Experience using Google products including Sheets, Search Console, and Analytics

Strong sense of judgment and decision‑making capabilities while taking budgetary considerations into account

Availability outside of a “normal 9‑5,” as the news cycle doesn’t stop
