Overview
Director/Marketing & External Affairs for Marshall Artists Series (MAS) at Marshall University. The Director leads all marketing, branding, digital strategy, communications, and external-relations efforts for MAS; collaborates with university partners and sponsors; provides hands-on instruction to students pursuing arts marketing and event promotion; and supports free Marshall student access as a core institutional priority. The role reports to the Executive Director and works with the Box Office Manager/Finance Director on budgeting, financial processes, and database management.

Key Responsibilities
- Marketing, Branding & Communications: Direct and execute comprehensive marketing, PR, and communications strategies that support ticket sales, earned revenue, sponsorship visibility, and audience development; align MAS marketing with Marshall University brand standards while preserving MAS’s identity; serve as MAS’s primary public information officer and spokesperson; lead digital marketing campaigns; write and distribute press releases and promotional content; manage media relationships; use data to guide season planning, campaign timing, pricing communication, and promotional investments.
- Revenue Enablement: Generate advertising sales; use analytics to inform pricing, timing, and revenue strategy; manage sponsor benefits and donor-facing materials; provide data-informed recommendations on audience behavior and revenue trends.
- Contract Compliance & Artist Relations: Ensure marketing materials comply with contracts and licensing; coordinate approvals with agents and publicists; maintain records and protect MAS from liability related to media and press access.
- Crisis Communications: Lead crisis planning and messaging for event disruptions; advise leadership on messaging and risk; coordinate rapid-response communications across platforms.
- Graphic Design & Creative Production: Serve as in-house graphic designer; produce promotional materials and oversee content production; manage photography and video needs.
- Ticketmaster & Revenue Analytics: Collaborate with Box Office Manager/Finance Director; pull and analyze Ticketmaster reports; track buyer behavior and revenue trends; coordinate pricing and marketing-related ticketing needs; support advertising sales and post-event reporting.
- Digital Presence & Web Management: Maintain MAS website; ensure accurate event information across digital platforms; monitor analytics and adjust strategies.
- Student Instruction & Experiential Learning: Recruit, train, and supervise students and interns; provide hands-on instruction and mentorship in arts marketing and event promotion.
- Community Engagement, Corporate Relations & External Affairs: Liaise with campus partners, community organizations, and sponsors; fulfill donor expectations and sponsorship benefits; represent MAS at events; support fundraising and communications materials.
- Special Projects: Serve as Director and Producer of MAS International Film Festival; lead campaigns, branding, and storytelling projects.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite), strong writing and editing, budget and vendor management, independent work and deadline management, leadership and collaboration, familiarity with Ticketmaster/CRM systems and nonprofit administration.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, public relations, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in performing arts marketing, media relations, or entertainment promotion.
Preferred
- Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience with Ticketmaster, ticketing, and CRM systems.
