Overview

Reporting to the VP‑EHSS, the Director – Environmental Affairs leads environmental, community and social responsibility functions for SSR Mining. The role integrates environmental management disciplines across global operations and supports corporate sustainability initiatives, including ESG reporting and carbon roadmap development.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing a long‑term vision and proactive strategy for environment, community and social responsibility.
  • Conduct strategic analysis to identify risks and opportunities and anticipate/prevent adverse environmental, reputational, or community incidents.
  • Provide expert knowledge and support in environmental, community and social responsibility matters.
  • Oversee site compliance, reporting and permitting, including acquisition and compliance of permits.
  • Support delivery of all environmental policies and practices, and community and stakeholder engagement programmes.
  • Guide water management – surface water and groundwater; tailings management; mine closure; environmental management systems; waste management; biodiversity and permitting across all operations and development sites.
  • Oversee tailings management, ensuring annual audits of design, construction, and operations of Tailings Management Facilities comply with local and international standards.
  • Drive carbon roadmap development and tracking across the global portfolio, coordinating carbon accounting, reduction targets and climate‑related disclosures.
  • Lead environmental performance management in partnership with senior and site leadership.
  • Provide site General Managers with information and resources on sustainability to support their responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Affairs and Executive management to strengthen ESG performance and review M&A opportunities.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences or related field; graduate degree preferred.
  • 10‑15 years of experience, preferably in an international mining company.
  • Strong ability to interface at all organisational levels.
  • Technical knowledge of groundwater and surface water, water management and treatment.
  • Business acumen with appreciation of costs and financial implications of proposed strategy/programmes.
  • Broad knowledge of the industry, international exposure and understanding of environmental aspects in project valuation.
  • Technical knowledge of biodiversity, waste management and carbon accounting.
  • Familiarity with international standards such as ICMM Principles and IFC Performance Standards.
  • Practical experience in operations, including project development and closure.
  • Multilingual ability is an advantage.

Salary and Benefits

For applicants residing in CO, the salary range is $200,000–$220,000. Benefits include 401(k), medical/dental/vision insurance, employee share purchase plan, paid time off (PTO), short‑term and long‑term incentive (STI and LTI).
