Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Athletic Director, the Director of Sports Information develops and disseminates public communication concerning sports information and events to students, staff, faculty, the community, and media. This role includes managing the department’s web presence, producing athletic publications, coordinating media relations, and supporting athletic statistical reporting.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and distribute athletic contest statistics, maintain accurate data sets, photo files, and data reporting.
- Plan and supervise the production of athletic publications (brochures, program brochures, newsletters, weekly releases, special news spots, game results).
- Respond to information requests from public news media, conference offices, CCCAA, NCAA, and other stakeholders in a timely and accurate manner.
- Operate and maintain the Athletic Department web page and Riverside City College athlete social networking pages.
- Represent Riverside City College Athletics at conference meetings, CCCSIA meetings, and other off‑site venues.
- Collaborate with other CCCAA programs that lack Sports Information Specialists.
- Serve as spokesperson for the Athletic Department, developing relationships with media and the community to promote athletics.
- Provide supervision in the press box, on press row, and at official scoring tables during games.
- Promote home sporting events through connections and collaboration with each athletics program.
- Attend all home sporting events, providing game‑management support and statistical accumulation.
- Assist the Athletic Director in managing the Tiger Backer athlete support group and sponsoring/advertising activities.
- Act as the point person for regional and state championship events hosted by the college.
- Manage the Hall of Fame process, including nomination, selection, and event planning.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university; major coursework in communications, journalism, marketing, English composition, sports information, public relations or a related field.
- One to five years of journalism or related experience.
- Knowledge of: PrestoSports website functions; website CMS and basic HTML; sporting rules, statistics methodology, game management; StatCrew in‑game statistical software; social media platforms; public relations and sports marketing; California Community College Athletic Association procedures; record‑keeping and filing systems.
- Ability to create professional copy for multi‑media publication; operate word‑processing and presentation software; use Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media; operate digital film equipment and photo conversion; train coaches and staff on media tools; demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; perform basic statistical calculations.
