Relocation Required to NYC. This position is onsite 5 days a week.

As a Manager, Technical Design – Women’s Sweaters & Knits, you will play a key role in shaping the future of women’s apparel by ensuring our intimates products meet the highest standards of quality, fit, and value. We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Technical Design Manager to lead the fit and technical development of our women’s sweaters and knits from concept through production. This role is critical in ensuring that every garment meets Walmart’s fit standards, performance expectations, and delivers an exceptional customer experience for women’s products.

Responsibilities

  • Fit Leadership: Lead and conduct live fit sessions using women’s fit models, pattern expertise, and fit forms to evaluate sweaters and knit samples for fit, performance, and functionality. Ensure alignment with women’s design intent and customer performance expectations.
  • 2D & 3D Pattern Expertise: Utilize 2D & 3D pattern tools to validate initial patterns, blocks, and grading during product development through production. Establish and maintain women’s grade rule tables and block libraries to streamline the fit process across sweaters and knits.
  • Customer-Centric Product Integrity: Drive a data-led approach focused on women’s customer insights, returns-based learning loops, and implementing learnings to elevate fit to meet and exceed women’s customer expectations.
  • Fit Quality & Technical Direction: Follow rigorous quality assurance gates through development, production, and post-purchase stages. Lead and conduct internal and external wear tests for sweaters and knits to seek wearer feedback and implement corrective actions as needed. Provide detailed technical direction on fit and construction to vendor partners to meet women’s design and fit intent.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Women’s Design, Product Development, and Sourcing teams and vendors to define and execute appropriate fit and functional intent for each sweater and knit product.
  • Technical Package Ownership: Use PLM knowledge to manage the end-to-end fit cycle. Create and maintain detailed technical packages for sweaters and knits in PLM, including specs, grading, construction details, and fit evaluation comments.

Qualifications

  • Enjoy analyzing data and solving complex challenges.
  • Have grading experience and FIT transformation experience.
  • Are skilled at influencing others, leading women’s fit sessions, teams, and managing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excel at training and developing associates, delivering engaging training programs, and creating educational materials.
  • Are customer‑centric, innovative, and have a passion for staying ahead of women’s sweater and knitwear trends.
  • Are data‑driven and technology‑savvy with PLM, 3D, Miro Board, and similar tools.
  • Embrace a test‑and‑learn mentality and agile ways of working to continuously improve women’s products and processes.
  • 3‑5+ years of experience in technical design roles, preferably focused on women’s sweaters, knits, or related categories.
  • Advanced understanding of PLM, 3D, CAD, Miro Board, and related tools within the product development ecosystem.
  • Strong operational mindset with ability to translate women’s product fit and quality and customer metrics into actionable steps.
  • Deep fit, fabric, and pattern expertise for women’s sweaters and knits.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence cross‑functional teams in matters related to women’s fit and product construction.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and coach junior technical designers.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
