A boutique lifestyle hotel located in the heart of the historic Gaslamp Quarter, Andaz San Diego offers contemporary living spaces blending design and vibrant social spaces. Opened in 1913 for the World’s Fair celebrating the Panama Canal, the hotel overlooks downtown San Diego and is surrounded by dynamic nightlife, dining, and cultural attractions. The hotel’s historic architecture houses the Gaslamp Quarter’s largest rooftop with a restaurant, bar, and pool. The property features 159 art-driven rooms and suites with modern amenities and loft‑style suites unique to the hotel’s Californian‑cool aesthetic.

The Role

Director of Sales, Events & Marketing drives the commercial strategy, brand voice, and market presence of the hotel. As a key member of the Leadership Committee, the role leads a cross‑functional team to deliver revenue growth, brand activation, and a cohesive guest experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of a holistic commercial strategy across sales, marketing, digital, and revenue channels to achieve and exceed revenue and market share goals.
  • Shape and elevate the hotel’s brand positioning in alignment with Andaz—driving cultural relevance through partnerships, programming, and storytelling.
  • Oversee all sales segments (group, transient, catering, and strategic accounts), ensuring thoughtful deployment and proactive business development, as well as financial and legal compliance.
  • Direct a multi-layered marketing strategy including digital, social, PR, content, and on‑property experiences that drive awareness and engagement.
  • Serve as a public-facing leader for the hotel—representing the brand in the community, industry events, and media opportunities.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing sales & marketing team, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Partner closely with operations to ensure alignment between commercial strategies and the on‑property guest experience.
  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and business planning processes, with a strong command of financial performance and market dynamics.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with ownership, regional leadership, and key external partners.
  • Continuously evaluate market trends, competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities to adapt strategies and maintain a leading position.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop leaders, fostering a culture of accountability, empowerment, and service excellence.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance and Revenue teams to support hotel wide goals and initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to brand, safety, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive sales leadership experience, with significant exposure to luxury or lifestyle hospitality environments.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute integrated commercial strategies that drive both revenue and brand equity.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, brand positioning, and the evolving luxury consumer.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with experience engaging ownership, senior leadership, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis.
  • Deep curiosity for culture, community, and trends that shape lifestyle hospitality.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and other supportive computer programs. Full Envision Suite experience a plus.
  • Experience in boutique, lifestyle, or independent hotel environments strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and a natural ability to connect with guests and team members.
  • Ability to multitask, stay calm under pressure, and make thoughtful decisions.

The salary range for this position is $110,300 - $183,800. This is the range for this position that Andaz San Diego reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors, such as experience and education.
