Position Overview
Academic Administrator VI – Senior Associate Director for Instructional Design and Programming. Reports to the Director of Instructional Design and Media Production (IDMP). Salary range: $119,617 – $164,103. Open date: March 5, 2026. Review decision: April 4, 2026. Location: Los Angeles, CA.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of instructional designers.
- Establish instructional design competencies, workflows, and quality‑assurance processes.
- Direct the development and delivery of professional learning programs focused on teaching with technology, inclusive and accessible course design, and educational innovation.
- Oversee instructional design services and consultations, managing complex course and program design initiatives, including online, hybrid, and eLearning projects.
- Ensure alignment with campus priorities, academic standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Co‑lead project‑management processes with media production leadership and systematize consultation and course‑design services.
- Collaborate with campus partners and UC systemwide initiatives, support assessment and continuous improvement efforts, and contribute to scalable, sustainable models for course design and instructional media production.
- Represent the teaching and learning center on campus‑wide and systemwide committees and act as a principal point of contact for faculty, academic units, and collaborators on course and program design initiatives.
- Support large‑scale instructional design projects and model inclusive leadership, effective communication, and professional autonomy.
Qualifications
- Basic Qualifications – Terminal or highest degree expected for appointment in the activity.
- Experience – Minimum 3+ years designing high‑quality academic courses for online, hybrid, or on‑campus learning environments.
- Additional Qualifications – Expert knowledge of instructional‑design models and frameworks, adult‑learning theories, accessibility, usability, needs analysis, learning‑objective design, assessment, and course‑evaluation tools.
- Proficiency with Canvas and advanced eLearning strategies, including instruction, authoring tools, and educational technologies.
- Advanced project‑management skills and experience conducting specialized training in instructional‑design tasks and multimedia integration.
- Advanced experience using and instructing in educational technology, interactive eLearning content creation, generative artificial intelligence, and multimodal applications.
- Knowledge of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility principles in technology‑enhanced instruction and curriculum development.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills; ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Preferred Qualifications – Experience managing an instructional‑design unit, including personnel supervision, project administration, and operational leadership; experience managing large‑scale instructional initiatives or systemwide technology projects; Project‑Management Certification (e.g., PMP); teaching and curriculum development at the university level; demonstrated influence on faculty adoption of innovative pedagogy; experience with sales and service models and cost‑recovery processes.
- Hybrid work arrangement within California; must reside in California or be willing to relocate.
