Position Summary
The Strategic Institutional Initiatives Communications Specialist supports the Office of Strategic Institutional Initiatives in the Division of Marketing & Communications (MarComm) by developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies that advance UGA’s strategic goals, focusing on external communications, publications, and digital media for the Innovation District.

Key Responsibilities

Act as primary liaison between the Innovation District and MarComm, ensuring collaboration and alignment of shared priorities.

Develop and maintain strategic communication plans and story ideas, conduct interviews with faculty, staff, and stakeholders, and write high‑quality content to elevate the Innovation District and institutional initiatives.

Oversee digital communications, manage official social media channels, calendars, and websites, coordinating posts with UGA’s central accounts.

Maintain and update content for accuracy, relevance, and consistency with the institution’s brand.

Design and review presentations, newsletters, publications, infographics, and talking points; analyze communication metrics to inform strategy.

Assist with annual event planning for the Innovation District and maintain stakeholder mailing lists.

Collaborate with MarComm editorial, creative, and digital media staff; collaborate with communicators from key campus units to reinforce university announcements.

Leverage MarComm’s workflow processes and project management systems to ensure timely project completion; attend relevant meetings and communicate with supervisor and team members.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.

Minimum of 2 years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading ability for technical and non‑technical audiences.

Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Canva.

Familiarity with AP Style and higher education.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and project‑management skills, enabling management of multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Experience in digital marketing campaigns and analytics, and in designing graphics, presentations, and event collateral.

Experience with project management tools such as Asana and content management systems.

Skills & Competencies

Knowledge of marketing, communications, and public relations principles.

Strong project management and coordination with multiple stakeholders.

Excellent organizational and prioritization abilities.

Proficiency with digital communication platforms and content management systems.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including copywriting and technical/science writing.

Capable of working independently with judgment, discretion, and professionalism.

Other Information
Standard office environment. Occasional nights and weekends required.
