Social Media Marketing Volunteer

Defenna Foundation is a survivor-led nonprofit founded by Serena Vu. Our mission is to ensure that no one has to face the impact of sexual violence or human trafficking alone. We use education, advocacy, technology, and community partnerships to help survivors and underserved communities access trusted support, resources, and healing.

We are looking for a creative and mission-driven Social Media Marketing Intern to help grow Defenna’s digital presence and share our story with the community. This role is ideal for someone who understands social media trends, enjoys creating content, and wants hands‑on experience in nonprofit marketing, advocacy, and event promotion.

The intern will help create posts, captions, graphics, short videos, and behind-the-scenes content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms. The intern may also attend in‑person events in Sacramento to film content, support campaigns, and help promote Defenna’s programs, fundraisers, and community work.

Responsibilities include:

Create social media posts, captions, reels, and graphics

Stay updated on social media trends and bring fresh content ideas

Film behind-the-scenes content at events, meetings, and community activities

Support marketing for programs, fundraisers, and awareness campaigns

Help with content calendars, scheduling, engagement, and basic analytics

Communicate Defenna’s mission in a respectful, trauma-informed, and inclusive way

Qualifications:

Interest in social media, marketing, communications, nonprofit work, or advocacy

Strong writing and communication skills

Creative mindset and comfort with short-form content

Familiarity with Instagram, TikTok, Canva, CapCut, or similar tools is a plus

Able to attend selected in‑person events in Sacramento

Reliable, respectful, and comfortable working with sensitive topics

Learn event marketing, branding, storytelling, and trauma-informed communication
