About This Job
Engineering Technician 1-4, Section 19 – Research (LTRC) – 19/50601733/EI1-E5/06.11.26-MV. The Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC) conducts research and provides technology assistance, engineering training, continuing education, technology transfer, and problem‑solving services to DOTD and the transportation community.

About This Position
Under supervision of the Engineer Supervisor team or Engineer Technician DCL, the position conducts laboratory and field research in the Concrete Research Unit. The program covers geosynthetics, geologic engineering, geotechnical field instrumentation, in‑situ soil exploration, nuclear non‑destructive testing, piling and embankment design, pavement base material, and subgrade design.

Minimum Qualifications
• Possession of a high school diploma or GED, or

• Six months of experience in sub‑professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Job Duties

Assist Engineer 6 and Engineering Technician DCL in developing and conducting research activities.

Develop work plans and execute the research program to address complex engineering problems.

Collect and analyze data in geotechnical research areas using cone penetrometer, geogauge, load compression tester, electric cone penetrometer, density gauge, and field inclinometer.

Use independent judgment in laboratory and field data collection.

Deliver data analysis in a format ready for reporting or presentation.

Evaluate new concepts and procedures through hands‑on interaction with materials and personnel.

Position‑Specific Details
Appointment may be probationary, promotion, job appointment, or detailing to special duty. The position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be classified as Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on prior experience. The position is eligible for premium pay of $2.00 per hour.
