Associate or Senior Editor, BMC Medicine Location: Shanghai or New York, Hybrid Working Model

Responsibilities Ensure quality in manuscript handling and published content, and oversee the handling of the content published in BMC Medicine, including managing individual submissions and advising editorial board members on content.
Adhere to editorial standards and maintain the BMC Medicine editorial ethos; advise on editorial policy development as appropriate.
Support investigation and resolution of publishing or research ethics cases.
Contribute to the recruitment, training, and engagement of new External Editorial Board Members (EBMs). Participate in EBM engagement initiatives across BMC Medicine.
Initiate and support journal development, participate in strategy discussions, and help develop journal development plans with colleagues across the Journals group.
Drive the transfer of appropriate submissions to the most suitable destination journal, prioritizing author service while adhering to editorial standards.
Encourage submission of high‑quality manuscripts via author outreach and journal strategy; build awareness of BMC Medicine through special projects and marketing collaboration.
Develop journal website content and features to raise the profile of BMC Medicine online.
Support the BMC Medicine editorial team by sharing expertise, covering for colleagues when needed, and contributing to a positive culture.
Qualifications PhD level (or equivalent) in a biomedical field, ideally with experience in cardiovascular, endocrinology‑based translational and molecular medicine.
Strong communication skills that are tactful, professional, and persuasive.
Excellent time‑management and prioritization skills, able to balance short‑term deadlines with long‑term goals.
Highly customer focused with strong analytical skills.
Willing to travel occasionally and represent BMC Medicine at external events.
Ability to respond to non‑routine circumstances and a self‑motivated, can‑do approach.
Adaptable to changing circumstances and able to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels in a team environment.
Editorial experience preferred but not essential.
Salary Range (US) Associate Editor: $80,000–$85,000 (annual base). Senior Editor: $95,000–$110,000 (annual base).
