Position Overview
The Vail Daily, located in the heart of the Colorado High Country, is seeking a versatile reporter to cover local government and stories affecting housing, business, nonprofits, and education. The role involves daily news coverage, enterprise pieces, and longer‑term investigative reporting. The ideal candidate has superior reporting skills, canPivot quickly when news breaks, and has one to two years of experience in a daily journalism environment. Fluency in Spanish is strongly desired.
Responsibilities
Generate 6–7 stories per week.
Take photos and video and create social‑media content.
Use social‑media tools to source stories and drive traffic to digital and print products.
Work well with community leaders/figures and newsroom staff.
Adapt quickly to a changing, fast‑paced environment.
Ensure accuracy, fairness, and correct spelling in all reporting.
Follow the direction and vision of the Vail Daily editor.
Meet assigned deadlines without exception.
Fill in for reporting vacancies as needed.
Maintain editorial ethics and act in a team‑player manner.
Qualifications
Journalism, English, or Communications degree (required).
One to two years of daily journalism experience.
Fluency in Spanish (preferred).
Availability to work nights and weekends.
Experience with content‑management systems.
Digital photography experience.
Knowledge of AP style.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Current driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.

Pay: $23–$24.75 per hour, depending on experience.
