Job Description
Primary Purpose
Assistant in developing and maintaining a comprehensive middle school band program that promotes musical excellence, student growth, and positive character development. Support instruction, rehearsals, performances, recruitment, and administrative functions while fostering a safe and engaging learning environment for all students.
Instructional Duties
Assist in planning and delivering high-quality music instruction aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Teach beginning and intermediate students and assist in high school band classes, sectionals, and small-group lessons.
Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Promote proper instrumental technique, music literacy, and performance skills.
Program Support
Assist with recruiting students into the band program.
Help organize concerts, contests, festivals, and other performances.
Support preparation for UIL Concert and Sight‑Reading evaluations.
Assist with inventory, maintenance, and distribution of instruments, music, and equipment.
Maintain accurate records related to attendance, grades, fees, and equipment.
Student Development
Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined classroom environment.
Encourage student leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and citizenship.
Communicate high expectations for academic and musical achievement.
Ensure student safety and adherence to district policies during rehearsals, performances, and travel.
Collaboration and Communication
Work collaboratively with Directors and other district staff.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, and community stakeholders.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and district‑required training.
Assist with public relations efforts that promote the band program and school district.
Administrative Responsibilities
Assist in managing program budgets and fundraising activities.
Help coordinate transportation, travel arrangements, and event logistics.
Support compliance with district, state, and UIL regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Band Director or campus administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge of instrumental pedagogy and music education best practices.
Ability to motivate and inspire middle school students.
Effective classroom management and organizational skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for performances and events.
Proficiency with music technology and educational software preferred.
Working Conditions
Frequent standing, walking, conducting, and lifting/carrying musical equipment.
Occasional travel for competitions, concerts, and professional development.
Evening and weekend commitments required throughout the school year.
