JOB SUMMARY
Monticello High School seeks a dynamic, motivated, and passionate instrumental music educator to join a collaborative music team, teaching 9th‑12th grade musicians. The successful candidate will direct and assist the overall high‑school instrumental music program, provide students opportunities to participate in extracurricular band activities, and ensure compliance with all state and district requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct high‑school instrumental performances, including concert bands, jazz bands, sectionals, percussion ensembles, and other small ensembles.
Provide band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, solo/ensemble contests, pep band performances, pep fests, and community events.
Create learning environments appropriate for all students with varying skill levels.
Assess students' developmental, cognitive, and social needs, and provide developmentally appropriate instruction; establish differentiated instruction and expectations.
Maintain and update accurate records of students' progress and development; communicate necessary information to students, colleagues, and parents; prepare required reports on students and activities.
Work cooperatively to maintain an accurate inventory of school‑owned instruments and uniforms; manage storage, use, and repair of instruments.
Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings; establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
Encourage parent and community involvement; obtain information for parents when requested; promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
Comply with all federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, MSHSL rules, and Board of Education policies. Other duties as assigned.

Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Music Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate MN teaching license as issued by PELSB.
Qualified candidates will possess the following: the desire to work cooperatively with other staff members of the high school music department to continue building a dynamic program; preparation and commitment to working with diverse communities of learners; skill in providing for the individual learning needs of students; ability to create a positive, inclusive learning environment; a high level of expertise in instrumental music repertoire specific to current student population needs and reflections; willingness to work outside of the school day at extra and co‑curricular activities; skill in establishing and maintaining positive relationships with diverse groups of students, parents, and colleagues.
