Fortune is seeking an experienced Features and Enterprise Editor to help shape high-impact storytelling on a broad range of topics defining global business. This editor should have strong finance, tech, and business knowledge and be capable of developing indispensable, must-read journalism for Fortune’s audience of executives, investors, and business leaders.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Fortune’s editor in chief, executive editors, and features team to develop compelling features and enterprise stories across business, finance, technology, leadership, and culture.
- Help conceive, assign, and edit a mix of stories, including executive profiles, reported features, analysis, investigations, and data-driven projects.
- Take a leading role in assigning and editorial packaging around Fortune's major list franchises, including the Fortune 500, Global 500, Most Powerful Women in Business, and 100 Best Companies to Work For.
- Partner with writers to sharpen story ideas, refine structure, deepen reporting, and produce memorable, distinctive journalism.
- Work with editors across the newsroom to identify stories with feature potential and help guide them from pitch to publication.
- Collaborate with photo editors, designers, copy editors, and production teams to help create a rich, visually compelling mix of print and digital coverage.
- Help reporters identify and frame important business trends, using financial, market, policy, and leadership insights to inform Fortune’s influential readership.
- Maintain high editorial standards of accuracy, fairness, clarity, and storytelling that align with Fortune’s legacy of authoritative business journalism.
- Support print production workflows, including story planning, line editing, display copy, art coordination, and deadline management.
Qualifications
- Has 7+ years of experience in business, financial, or tech journalism, with a strong record in story development and editing features and enterprise reporting.
- Brings a strong understanding of how companies operate strategically, financially, and culturally, and can translate that knowledge into compelling journalism.
- Has excellent story assigning, framing, and packaging instincts and can help writers turn promising ideas into ambitious, well-structured features.
- Is a strong line editor with a sharp eye for narrative, clarity, pacing, and voice.
- Has high EQ and is a thoughtful collaborator with writers, editors, designers, photo editors, and copy editors.
- Is driven by curiosity, an early adapter to new tech and journalism formats, and a fast learner of approaches and processes.
- Combines news judgment with an appreciation for ambitious, conversation-starting storytelling and magazine-quality execution.
- Understands what makes Fortune distinctive: authoritative, agenda-setting journalism that speaks to business leaders and innovators worldwide.
- Preference for those with experience working in print or magazine-style digital publishing, with familiarity with design, photography, copy editing, and production deadlines.
- Is comfortable working in a fast-paced newsroom and managing multiple stories at different stages of development.
Location
New York City, headquartered in Fortune’s headquarters, five days per week.
Compensation
$150,000 – $200,000 (salary may vary based on relevant factors).
