Description & Requirements
Electronic Arts creates next‑level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here every member is part of the story, and together we make play happen.
3D Artist
Electronic Arts has a long history of delivering memorable games that connect with audiences worldwide. We are looking for a 3D artist who can contribute to this legacy by creating expressive character art for marketing and game content.
The Role
The 3D Artist will work on EA’s Creative team for The Sims. Your focus will be on producing high‑quality static renders and character animations for key art, marketing communications, and social media. You will also partner with the Art Lead to develop efficient pipelines and iterate on tools, ensuring quick iteration from concept to polished final asset.
What We’re Looking For
Our ideal candidate has an outstanding character animation portfolio. You understand character motivation, weight, anatomy, and the physical forces that ground a character in a world. You can create believable characters that hint at an expansive life at a glance and maintain the high quality bar established for The Sims.
You will also have experience creating characters for marketing communications, key art, and occasionally in‑game art and NPC creation.
Reporting Structure
This role reports to the hiring manager and works closely with Associate Creative Directors, Creative Directors, and Designers across The Sims Creative team.
Work Model
This is a hybrid position; candidates should be able to work in‑office at Redwood City three days a week.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with ACDs, Designers and Creative Directors to create compelling, expressive character art that tells a story and embodies the Sims style.
Design iconic characters and build sets (in‑game assets) for marketing and internal projects.
Create static renders for marketing communications and internal projects using game art assets and proprietary tools.
Render animation and static images in Maya, Arnold, Marmoset Toolbag and the proprietary Game Engine.
Build and iterate on tools and pipeline to reduce workflow drag and free up time for creating.
Finish hi‑res renders with traditional painting and photo‑editing techniques in Photoshop.
Take work from brief/direction through final artwork: sourcing assets, creating Sims, rough posing, iterating based on feedback, lighting, rendering, and final polish in 2D.
Collaborate with a diverse and multidisciplinary team.
Work within strict technical limitations and tight deadlines.
Qualifications
5+ years of animation/3D art experience in games or film.
Excellent organization skills; capable of building a scalable pipeline for multiple artists.
Proactive communicator who contributes to team discussions, flags problems, and articulates ideas.
Problem‑solver who researches, iterates, and continually seeks process improvements.
Proficiency in Maya (essential) and experience with lighting and rendering in Arnold using PBR materials.
Outstanding character animation skills, with a portfolio demonstrating strong character work.
Comfortable across all areas of 3D art production—modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging, animation, and asset up‑res.
Proficiency in Photoshop (After Effects skills are a plus).
Initiative in refining processes and a passion for 3D art and games.
Compensation and Benefits
