The Northern Light Reporter Job at University of Alaska in Anchorage

The Northern Light, UAA’s student‑run newspaper, is currently recruiting for a Student Reporter. If you are interested in newspaper reporting, we invite you to apply.
Reporters write stories for The Northern Light, covering news, features, arts and entertainment, or sports. Working for the paper offers students a unique opportunity to learn about publishing and the news media, with access to industry professionals, professional equipment, and chances to submit material for awards.
Responsibilities

Write stories on a variety of topics, including news, features, arts and entertainment, and sports.
Research and interview subjects; attend events to generate story ideas.
Produce content that can be posted online at www.thenorthernlight.org and printed for campus and Anchorage distribution.
Work remotely when possible; maintain strong communication and time‑management skills.
Collaborate with editors, receive and provide constructive feedback.
Minimum Qualifications

Excellent writing and research skills; ability to write quickly and meet deadlines.
Attention to detail in writing to avoid publication of false or misleading information.
Enrollment in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester, or enrollment in the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester.
Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and good academic standing, or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or their designee.
Eligibility for student employment as outlined above; provide evidence of enrollment to substantiate employment eligibility.
Position reappointment is contingent upon successful progress toward degree completion and performance evaluation.
Open to undergraduate students only.
Position Details

Student assistant 2 position: 8–12 hours per week.
Hourly pay: $13.03.
This is a pooled position; applications are reviewed as needed.
