Job Overview
The Director of New Product Introduction, Sustaining and Tech Transfer will lead the sustaining engineering function by driving the cross‑discipline product introduction roadmap from R&D to commercialization, managing sustaining activities to improve product quality, reliability, and performance based on field feedback, and owning all product tech transfers between sites based on company strategic priorities and/or products acquired through an acquisition. The role requires leadership across electrical, mechanical, optical, fluidic engineering, firmware development, and systems engineering disciplines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead multinational engineering teams to ensure end‑to‑end successful launch of new products, from R&D hardware assistance to full commercialization and field service.
Assist R&D to bring complex new products to manufacturing and service readiness through product optimization and process development.
Ensure smooth transition from new product introduction (NPI) to sustaining phase and maintain product performance, reliability, and compliance throughout its lifecycle.
Manage end‑of‑life (EOL) planning and execution.
Lead cross‑functional teams to resolve field issues, quality problems, and customer complaints; drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for product failures or defects.
Implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence and identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising quality or compliance.
Support design changes for manufacturability, serviceability, and supply chain efficiency; deliver cost savings associated with the Value Engineering category.
Ensure sustaining activities meet regulatory requirements (FDA, ISO, CE, etc.) and maintain documentation and change control processes for audits and inspections.
Manage component obsolescence and alternative sourcing, collaborating with suppliers, supply chain teams, and strategic sourcing to enhance supply chain robustness.
Oversee Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and ensure timely implementation; validate changes through risk assessments and testing.
Manage tech transfer projects from concept through full execution between Global Cytek sites and acquired entities.
Provide technical support for service teams and customers; analyze field data to identify trends and drive product improvements.
Develop strong partnerships with relevant companies and stakeholders, reinforcing interdisciplinary connections across R&D, software, supply chain, manufacturing, finance, quality, product platforms, service, and field applications.
Implement Lean and Six Sigma methodologies for process and product improvements; drive initiatives to enhance reliability and reduce warranty costs.
Build and mentor high‑performing teams; set priorities, define budgets, resources, and schedules; improve engineering organization capabilities through training programs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of hands‑on experience in new product introduction, sustaining, technical transfer of complex instrumentation/hardware, and project management within medical device, life science, or telecommunications organizations.
Ph.D. in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience is preferred.
Thorough understanding of product development, product sustaining, and NPI processes.
Extensive hands‑on experience managing multi‑national engineering organizations.
Proven experience bringing products to market and collaborating with platform, marketing, and sales teams.
Strong interdisciplinary leadership experience in electrical, mechanical, regulatory, prototyping, validation, and testing areas.
Ability to implement an engineering strategy that balances operational and support requirements with development programs.
Passion for leading, mentoring, and inspiring engineers; actively involved in day‑to‑day engineering.
Ability to identify and recruit top talent; highly collaborative, inclusive, creative, and flexible.
Experience defining KPIs and OPIs, managing performance through metrics.
Availability to travel globally up to 25% of the time.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
