Technical Theater Director
Full-time Regular – New York, NY, US

Salary Range: $73,770.00 To $160,730.00 Annually

Collegiate School seeks an experienced and collaborative educator to serve as Director of Technical Theater. This faculty position combines technical theater instruction, student mentorship, and production leadership in support of a dynamic performing arts program. The Director of Technical Theater serves as the School's lead technical theater professional and oversees theatrical productions, technical theater education, and theater facilities while fostering creativity, collaboration, and leadership among students.

Primary Responsibilities
Teaching & Student Development

Teach technical theater courses and related electives as assigned

Mentor and supervise students participating in technical theater activities and productions

Provide instruction in scenic construction, stagecraft, lighting, sound, stage management, and theater safety

Foster creativity, collaboration, leadership, and problem‑solving skills through hands‑on learning experiences

Support student participation in productions, independent projects, and co‑curricular activities

Technical Production & Theater Operations

Serve as Technical Director and Production Manager for Middle School and Upper School theater productions

Oversee scenic design, construction, installation, and strike

Manage stage operations, backstage logistics, and production schedules

Provide technical support for assemblies, performances, and academic events

Coordinate technical requirements with directors, faculty, and staff

Maintain production calendars and schedules

Facilities, Equipment & Safety

Oversee the maintenance, organization, and safe operation of theater facilities and scene shops

Manage inventories of lighting, sound, computer, and production equipment

Ensure compliance with theater safety standards and best practices

Develop procedures for equipment use, storage, and maintenance

Monitor technical needs and recommend repairs, upgrades, and replacements

Serve as the primary liaison with vendors, suppliers, and contractors

Coordinate purchasing of production materials and technical equipment

Assist with budgeting and expense tracking

Support long‑range planning related to theater facilities and production resources

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Technical Theater, Theater Production, Theater Design, Arts Education, or a related field required

Advanced degree preferred

Experience in technical theater production including scenic construction, lighting, sound, or stage management

Experience teaching middle school and/or high school students preferred

Experience working in educational and/or professional theater settings

Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
