Are you a Transmission Line Engineer looking for the flexibility of a remote role while working on impactful utility infrastructure projects? Join a collaborative engineering team where you'll help design, analyze, and deliver transmission line projects that keep the power grid reliable and communities connected.
This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys both the technical challenges of transmission design and the opportunity to lead projects, collaborate with clients, and contribute to the development of junior team members. You'll work on projects spanning 12 kV to 765 kV transmission systems, partnering with experienced engineers, designers, and utility clients to successfully deliver critical energy infrastructure projects from concept through construction.
What You'll Do
As a Transmission Line Engineer, you'll play a key role in the successful delivery of utility transmission projects, supporting all phases of engineering, design, and project execution.
Engineering & Design
+ Design and analyze overhead transmission line projects ranging from 12 kV to 765 kV.
+ Perform transmission line routing, structural analysis, foundation design, and engineering calculations.
+ Utilize PLS-CADD to model, analyze, and optimize transmission line designs.
+ Develop innovative design alternatives and evaluate technical and cost impacts to support project decision-making.
+ Prepare detailed engineering packages, including:
+ Plan and profile drawings
+ Design drawings
+ Engineering specifications
+ Construction packages
+ Bills of materials
+ Project schedules
Project Leadership & Delivery
+ Serve as a project lead on transmission line projects, coordinating technical execution and project activities.
+ Support projects from initial planning through construction and closeout.
+ Develop project scopes, material requirements, cost estimates, and schedules.
+ Monitor project progress and proactively identify and address challenges to keep projects on track.
+ Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery.
Construction & Client Support
+ Participate in contractor bid reviews, construction meetings, and project coordination efforts.
+ Support construction activities by answering technical questions and resolving design-related issues.
+ Conduct occasional field visits to validate designs and support construction teams.
+ Ensure project execution aligns with engineering standards, safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
Collaboration & Mentorship
+ Work closely with utility clients, engineers, designers, and project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
+ Mentor and support junior engineers and designers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
+ Contribute to team development, continuous improvement initiatives, and engineering best practices.
+ Help develop measurable goals and support a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
What You'll BringRequired Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
+ 2-5 years of experience in transmission line engineering and utility infrastructure projects.
+ Experience designing transmission line projects from concept through completion.
+ Proficiency with PLS-CADD for transmission line design and analysis.
+ Experience using MicroStation and AutoCAD.
+ Strong understanding of:
+ Transmission line routing
+ Structural design
+ Foundation design
+ Utility standards and regulations
+ Material specifications and procurement
+ Experience developing project estimates, scopes, and bills of materials.
+ Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
+ Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
+ Experience leading technical project teams.
+ Experience facilitating contractor bid reviews and construction meetings.
+ Previous mentoring or coaching experience.
+ Knowledge of utility permitting and regulatory processes.
+ Experience supporting large-scale transmission projects for investor-owned, municipal, or cooperative utilities.

This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
