USA TODAY Co., Inc. is seeking a video-forward reporter to join the breaking news desk at The Tennessean. The role focuses on rapidly producing real-time video dispatches and written stories to keep the audience updated on breaking news in Nashville.
Responsibilities Monitor police scanners, emails, social media, community groups and other sources to find stories.
Monitor developing stories across news, social, and other media platforms for key topics important to the local audience.
Efficiently and accurately write stories, several per day.
Find, pitch and swiftly produce stories on emerging topics, ensuring content meets audience needs.
Ensure content is optimized for competitive search ranking and best practices for user experience.
Qualifications Bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism or related field.
Expertise in creating and producing video content.
Experience with social media platforms, including Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, and YouTube.
Command of concise writing, spelling, grammar, and AP style.
Strong fact‑checking and reporting skills.
Well‑organized, detail‑oriented and flexible.
Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
Facility with AI and automation and experience using it to enhance journalism.
Broadcast experience and comfort being on camera is a plus.
Living in or having recently lived in Nashville, or familiarity with the state and its communities is a plus.
