Reporter (Temporary)

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW GBH News is a multi-platform local newsroom headquartered in Boston. We produce local talk shows, publish online news, and broadcast local, national, and international stories to inform, educate, and enlighten our audiences.
JOB OVERVIEW GBH News seeks a short‑term reporter to cover Massachusetts politics and policy. The role involves breaking daily news for online, radio, and social media, contributing to the newsroom newsletter, and appearing on radio, television, and video programs as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES Cover Massachusetts legislative developments and policy changes.
Translate legislative news into stories that explain how policy affects daily life.
File stories across radio, web, social media, and occasionally television.
Work with the Senior Editor of Politics and other editors to develop daily and weekly coverage.
Assist the politics team with turning stories into newsletter content and other formats.
Serve as a newsroom asset by guiding colleagues on government‑related angles.
QUALIFICATIONS Solid news judgment and the ability to prioritize competing developments.
Strong sense of journalistic ethics.
Excellent writing, reporting, interviewing, and research skills.
Experience breaking news and working under tight deadlines.
Ability to record and broadcast, or quickly learn to do so.
Ability to take publishable quality photos.
Experience with quick‑turn and longer‑form/feature reporting.
Familiarity with audio/video editing tools.
Desire to work successfully in an open team environment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
At least 3 years of experience as a reporter covering politics.
Solid track record of enterprise, exclusive, and breaking news reporting.
JOB SPECIFICS Temporary position with a hybrid work arrangement.
Reports to the Senior Editor of Politics.
LOCATION Boston, MA (on‑site presence required). Hybrid staff may work additional days at the studio.
EVENING ALIGNMENT SALARY RANGE $66,000 – $84,000, commensurate with experience.
