Overview
We are designing the grid of the future! The Civil Designer / Civil 3D CAD Designer is responsible for developing detailed civil design drawings and site development deliverables for substation, transmission line, and renewable energy (BESS) projects. This role supports engineering teams by converting conceptual layouts, markups, and technical inputs into accurate grading, drainage, and site plans. The ideal candidate has strong experience in Civil 3D, site grading, drainage design, and earthwork modeling, with the ability to coordinate with structural and electrical disciplines.

Responsibilities

Prepare civil design drawings including site plans, grading plans, drainage layouts, and access roads

Develop surfaces, profiles, and earthwork (cut/fill) analysis using Civil 3D

Design and draft stormwater drainage systems, including ditches, culverts, and discharge points

Support development of erosion and sediment control (ESC) plans

Assist with stormwater management and hydrology calculations

Prepare foundation layouts and coordinate with structural design teams

Review and interpret engineering markups, survey data, geotechnical reports, and specifications

Ensure design compliance with project standards, local regulations, and industry practices

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, electrical) to resolve design issues

Maintain organized project files, drawing sets, and revision tracking

Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, or related industry experience

2–5 years of experience in civil/site design within the energy sector (e.g., substations, transmission lines, BESS, renewable projects)

Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including:

Surface modeling, grading, and profiles

Pipe networks and drainage design

Earthwork and cut/fill calculations

Experience in site grading, drainage, and roadway/access design

Experience working with survey/topographic data and USGS datasets

Understanding of stormwater management and erosion control principles

Ability to support permitting and regulatory submissions

Experience in structural drafting (concrete and steel) and reviewing shop drawings

Experience in drawing development and detailing for construction packages

Strong attention to detail and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with 3D modeling and basic BIM concepts

Familiarity with hydrology tools (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS)

Experience with Bluebeam or similar review tools

Location and Travel
This position will be located in Panama City, Panama. Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less).
