Web Application Developer (React/TypeScript)

The client is seeking an experienced Front-End Web Application Developer to support two high-impact student initiatives: the Attendance Display Pilot and the Student Hub.
This role will be responsible for designing and developing modern, intuitive React applications that deliver engaging experiences for K-12 students and school staff. The Attendance Display Pilot is the immediate priority, followed by development of the Student Hub.
The ideal candidate has strong expertise in React, TypeScript, UI/UX design, REST API integration, and data visualization, along with the ability to independently translate technical requirements into high-quality, maintainable front-end applications.
The developer will work closely with the Senior Data Engineer, Infrastructure Architect, and Deputy Executive Director of Data Services to deliver production-ready solutions while adhering to established technical specifications and project requirements.
Required Qualifications:
6+ years of professional front-end development experience
Proven experience developing production-grade applications using React and TypeScript
Strong UI/UX skills with the ability to make sound visual design and interaction decisions
Experience integrating RESTful APIs, including:
Authentication headers
Error handling
Loading states
Experience with data visualization libraries such as:
Recharts
Chart.js
or similar frameworks
Experience building responsive, accessible web applications suitable for K-12 users
Portfolio or work samples showcasing previous front-end projects (required)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience developing SharePoint Framework (SPFx) web parts
Familiarity with Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) authentication
Experience using MSAL for token acquisition
Experience developing kiosk-style or display-only applications
Prior experience within K-12 education or public sector environments
Key Responsibilities Front-End Development:
Design and develop React/TypeScript web applications based on defined technical specifications
Build both authenticated and display-only user interfaces
Develop interactive dashboards and visualizations, including:
Trend charts
Summary dashboards
Gamified recognition displays
Create kiosk-style interfaces optimized for continuous display on embedded devices and public screens
Develop authenticated SharePoint Online web parts using SPFx
Ensure applications are responsive, accessible, high-performing, and visually engaging for K-12 audiences
API Integration & Authentication:
Integrate front-end applications with RESTful APIs
Implement authentication, token management, error handling, and loading states
Build Azure AD authentication using MSAL
Collaborate with backend teams to validate API contracts before UI implementation
Collaboration & Quality:
Develop solutions from well-defined technical requirements without expanding project scope
Identify and communicate requirement gaps or design ambiguities before development begins
Maintain clean, well-documented, version-controlled code within Azure DevOps
Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and team collaboration activities
