Manager Of Derivatives Accounting

As Manager of Derivatives Accounting, you will be responsible for overseeing the GAAP and STAT accounting close, financial reporting, and financial analytics pertaining to the company's derivatives portfolio. The Manager of Derivatives Accounting will report to the Head of Derivatives Accounting. You will work closely with the company's third-party investment accounting service provider and asset managers to ensure the accuracy and completeness of underlying investment accounting records. You will also work with the Reporting team to ensure appropriate GAAP and STAT reporting and disclosures, as well as with Finance to support the analysis and communication of investment results. You will manage the third-party investment accounting service provider to ensure a timely close, while providing oversight and development to junior staff. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. You are confident in the subject area and can take ownership in the identification and resolution of problems involving multiple parties.
Duties And Responsibilities

Serve as a subject matter expert on accounting and reporting for derivatives
Oversee and perform the monthly accounting close over derivatives
Perform balance sheet and income statement attribution and variance analysis
Manage relationship with third-party accounting vendor to properly account for derivatives
Compile and/or review footnotes and schedules for U.S. GAAP and Statutory financial statements
Collaborate with Investment Front Office on new derivative strategies or investment managers
Evaluate investment results and prepare and communicate analytics package to finance leaders
Research accounting and reporting guidance on new derivative strategies or instruments
Identify manual journal entries needed for accurate financial results; prepare and review manual journal entries
Consult with Investment Management, Third-Party Asset Managers, and Cedants
Execute key internal financial controls to ensure accurate investment accounting results
Assist and develop junior staff on daily, monthly, and quarterly tasks
Provide reporting and supplemental information to reinsurance cedants
Support an environment of continuous improvement
Qualifications

Beyond experience, the right candidate will demonstrate the following leadership competencies and personal characteristics as the Manager of Investment Accounting at Resolution Life
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
Certified Public Accountant preferred
6-10+ years of experience with 4+ years of derivatives accounting and/or insurance industry experience required
Expertise in US GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles
Experience with Clearwater Analytics or Third-Party Investment Accounting model preferred
Strong research, verbal and written communication skills are essential to effectively and clearly communicate technical issues in a pragmatic way to others including senior leadership
Confidence, credibility and character to liaise across corporate functions; ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues both within Resolution Life and throughout the industry
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to develop, coach and train others in an organizational setting
Sense of urgency and high degree of flexibility - ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines, making adjustments accordingly and execute tasks in support of corporate objectives
