Job Summary
Seeking a City Beat Reporter/Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to cover the Anchorage city government - Mayor, departments, and Anchorage Assembly - explaining how decisions impact neighborhoods across the municipality/borough. You will pitch and enterprise daily, investigate and report with strong ethics and visuals, and write/shoot/edit stories for on-air (live or taped) and digital platforms. Must be comfortable requesting/using data and holding elected officials accountable; may occasionally fill in as an anchor or producer. Schedule: evening shift 2:30‑10:30 p.m. M‑F, with flexibility to work other shifts as needed/assigned.

Duties/Responsibilities

Research, write, shoot, edit, and report accurate, timely stories for TV + digital

Deliver live reports in the field and in the studio, especially during breaking news

Maintain the beat with regular checks; develop and cultivate sources

Conduct field and on‑set interviews; collaborate with newsroom teams and show strong news judgment

Enterprise hard‑news, research‑driven packages under tight deadlines; pitch stories daily and work with the assignment desk/Managing Editor

Publish and update stories to the web (including remotely) and provide social content; engage with viewers

Anchor/produce live events and report from the Digital Desk for CTV audiences, as assigned

Operate non‑linear editing daily (Edius a plus); enter scripts/CGs/times in ENPS

Use effective field lighting; produce strong visual storytelling (creative standups/explainers)

Represent the station at community/school events as needed or assigned

Participate in feedback/critique and ongoing training

Communicate closely with the assignment desk, broadcast producers, and digital team during breaking and developing news

Follow appearance guidelines; work evenings/weekends/holidays as assigned, and other duties as needed

Perform other job‑related duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)

On‑air reporting experience in broadcast news (or equivalent); political reporting experience preferred

Strong writing skills in a clear, concise, conversational style; solid AP Style proficiency

Excellent interviewing skills and ability to build sources

Proven live reporting ability with strong on‑camera presence and presentation

Proficiency with broadcast/digital cameras, newsroom systems (e.g., ENPS), and non‑linear editing (Grass Valley Edius a plus)

Solid computer skills, including Microsoft applications and internet‑based publishing tools
