Principal Responsibilities

The Stamford JCC Performing Arts Department is seeking a passionate, creative, and skilled individual to join our full‑time team as Theater Director & Production Associate. The role involves teaching a variety of theatrical disciplines to students of all ages, coordinating and overseeing all aspects of production, including sound, lighting, set design, stage management, and rehearsal operations.

  • Lead instructor for theater classes and seasonal performing arts camps, teaching disciplines including acting, improvisation, musical theater, and voice to students from preschool through middle school.
  • Serve as a class assistant for other performing and fine arts classes.
  • Act as Theater and Music Director for productions (currently 3 dedicated productions per year).
  • Provide private and small‑group voice instruction as needed.
  • Choreograph basic musical theater movement and stage blocking.
  • Collaborate with Dance and Theater staff and lead production on all Performing Arts performances.
  • Oversee technical elements such as sound, lighting, and set coordination for all shows.
  • Assist with stage management and backstage operations.
  • Support creation, organization, and dissemination of rehearsal schedules.
  • Support overall operations of the department as directed by the Director of Operations, Performing Arts.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations, Senior Director of Programming, and JCC CEO.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 2‑3 years of teaching and directorial experience with preschool and school‑aged children strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in theater or music, or at least 3 years of professional experience.
  • Available to teach weekday afternoons and early evenings.
  • Available for rehearsals and performances on weekends when required.
  • Experience with lighting and/or sound design and related software.
  • Stage management experience.
  • Must be a team player, communicating openly and collaborating well.
  • Ability to liaise professionally with parents and students.
  • Available to start on or about August.

Additional Skill Sets (appreciated but not required)

  • Proficient pianist (or another musical instrument).
  • Set design experience.
  • Dance and/or choreography experience.
  • Interest in other Performing & Fine Arts Disciplines.

Salary

$50,000
