Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, and enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Support the campus and district Fine Arts program, produce outstanding performing groups, develop individual musicianship with all students, promote an appreciation for the best in all areas of music, and teach the value of individual and team effort in reaching a common goal.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for assigned subjects/levels
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject/level assigned
Strong woodwind background preferred
Knowledge of beginning band pedagogy
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Knowledge of UIL and TMEA rules and procedures
At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
Duties and Responsibilities

Teach the 2nd concert band (CC non‑varsity UIL competitive band) at Tomball High School, assist with other feeder bands, and teach beginning band classes.
Develop individual musicianship with all students and promote an appreciation for music.
Assist students in preparation for TMEA and UIL individual and group competition.
Direct band section rehearsals.
Prepare bands for concerts, contests and other events.
Attend and co‑direct all outside‑of‑the‑academic‑day functions and events connected to the Tomball High School Band.
Maintain quality student management and discipline in the organization and in the classroom.
Maintain accurate inventory and assignment records of school uniforms and instruments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional travel required in‑district and out‑of‑district for school functions and/or activities. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
