Job Overview
The Regional Account Manager (RAM) position is within our Hematology and Nephrology Franchise, a division of Alexion, and will focus on PNH. The RAM will be assigned a sales territory focused on academic centers and hospital system hospitals, private practices, and infusion centers, primarily focused on hematology. This individual would be responsible for the growth and expansion of the PNH portfolio and other products, following FDA approval, for appropriate specialists.
Key Responsibilities
Consistently achieving or exceeding sales objectives in the assigned territory.
Creating and maintaining strategically targeted account‑specific business plans that reflect an in‑depth understanding of local market forces impacting product sales.
Developing and maintaining strong in‑depth clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge.
Demonstrating ability to educate on the clinical approach to disease states leading to successful differential diagnosis and appropriate testing and treatment of the patient population.
Appropriately utilizing all marketing tools and resources, including PowerPoint presentations.
Collaborating closely with stakeholders, including aHUS RAMs, TLLs, SALs, MSLs, Market Access, FRMs, PEMs, Diagnostics, and enterprise partners.
Leading the implementation for our patient‑centric partnership model which will include physicians, their staff, patients, clinics, and hospitals.
Executing local promotional activities and programs for therapeutic areas.
Providing a high level of product expertise and customer service to all accounts.
Tracking activities and submitting reports on sales activities accurately and on‑time.
Being trained to understand and demonstrate proper use of products to clinicians in a hospital environment.
Handling customer questions and objections consistently with product indications and sales training methodology, including compliant triage of inquiries to appropriate partners.
Managing time, CRM tools, resources, and workload efficiently as an effective administrator.
Proactively interacting with Alexion management to refine product and market initiatives.
Working with the highest degree of professionalism and in accordance with the company’s policies and Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
5 years pharmaceutical sales or equivalent experience (e.g., biotech or medical device) or 5 years’ experience in a medical setting.
Proven, documented track record for delivering consistent, top‑tier sales results in institutions and hospital systems.
Ability to work effectively independently and in an interdependent, team‑oriented environment on a consistent basis.
Strong clinical and account selling, analytical, and strategic skills to develop accounts.
Demonstrated ability to successfully seek out and qualify leads and profile new accounts.
Ability to gain consistent access and develop strong, professional relationships for scientific exchange and promotion with healthcare providers in the community.
Effective verbal and written communication skills and organizational abilities.
Must live in the geographic territory or within 50 miles of the territory border.
Ability to travel within the territory on a regular basis, including frequent overnight and weekend travel.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
General field‑based role requirements: ability to travel by public transportation, automobile, train, or plane; work comfortably in a clinical setting; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; problem‑solve; collaborate; maintain availability during standard business hours.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced or master’s degree.
5 years pharmaceutical sales or equivalent experience (e.g., biotech or medical device).
Sales experience in the orphan or ultra‑orphan area.
Experience in biopharma; hematology, and/or oncology.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $152,813 to $229,219. Base pay may vary depending on factors such as location and experience. Short‑term incentive bonus opportunity is available; qualification to participate in a long‑term incentive program for salaried roles or a retirement contribution for hourly roles. Benefits include a 401(k) plan, paid vacation and holidays, paid leaves, and medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the applicable plans. Employee will be in an at‑will position, and the company reserves the right to modify base salary or other compensation at any time.
