Reliability Specialist Technician

Job Description
This role is involved in our Condition Monitoring, Defect Elimination, and Machine Health programs within our Surface Maintenance Department. It focuses on heavy equipment used in open pit mining including rigid frame haul trucks, hydraulic mining excavators and shovels, pedestal/platform drills and boom drills, and support equipment such as track dozers, motor graders, and front‑end loaders.

Responsibilities

Conduct Non‑Destructive Testing (Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant, Thermography) on mobile equipment used in surface mining.

Register oil samples, interpret analysis, communicate findings to the maintenance team, and create work orders in the CMMS.

Assist, train, and coach colleagues in diagnosing and maintaining mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

Participate in Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFA) to determine contributing factors and recommend improvements, including component teardowns.

Engage in Continuous Improvement projects such as increasing oil‑change intervals, alternative component or lubricant studies, and contamination control projects.

Make recommendations on cost and waste reduction, procedure updates, and equipment improvements.

Gather, analyze, and communicate machine‑health trends to the maintenance team.

Demonstrate the attributes and behaviors of a Safety Leader; conduct at least two hazard identifications and one task observation per week.

Self‑manage multiple deliverables within set timeframes, prioritize tasks for self and others, and sequence activities logically.

Qualifications

Engineering qualification (post‑secondary education in technology) with certification focused on NDT (Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant, Thermography); or equivalent three years of industry experience and such certification.

Certification of expertise on NDT techniques such as Visual Inspection, Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant, Thermography, and Ultrasonic.

Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).

Advanced CMMS user.

Root Cause Analysis facilitator.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) for report writing, presenting, and communicating.

Advanced technical report writing skills.

Experience working outdoors, on elevated work platforms, and in confined spaces.

Following certifications are a plus: MLA, MLT, MLE, CLS.
